The PlayStation Vita (abbreviated as PS Vita) is a handheld video game console created by Sony Computer Entertainment.
The PS Vita is a successor to the PlayStation Portable and was first announced at E3 2011. It launched in Japan on December 17, 2011, then released in North America, Europe, and other regions after February 22, 2012. The touchscreen-centric console is a competitor to the Nintendo 3DS.
A revised model, the PS Vita 2000 series, was released between 2013-2014, with a slightly smaller size, extended battery life, and an OLED display instead of an LCD screen. Sony also released the PlayStation TV, a short-lived, re-purposed version of the Vita that allowed for the play of PS Vita games on a television screen similar to a home video game console. The PS TV was discontinued by the end of 2015. There have been an estimated 10mil consoles sold worldwide as of December 2015.
