Introduction[]

I'm on vacation... with a *friend*. Before Hope's Peak, this would be unthinkable.

Hope Fragment[]

My mind is overflowing with ideas. I wrote some here, but I have lots more to do when I get back.

Friendship Events[]

Gonta & Toko[]

Gonta & Toko
*sigh* Even I can't go without bathing when it's this hot out.
P-Plus, this swimsuit is for Byakuya's eyes, so I can't let it get dirty.
Hell yeah! I *thought* the hella nasty chick was here, but I couldn't smell ya!
Sh-Shut it! Even at my grimiest I'm far better than an animal like you!
I dunno 'bout that! You're worse than a bug, but still better than Monodam!
By your own admission, I'm better than an animal! And...I'm better than a bug too!
Heeey... Wait! You misunderstand bugs!
Wh-What's with *you* all of a sudden...
Bug don't smell bad! Though some bug do let off strange smells...
But even stink bug only let off smell for warning and defense, so they not always stink!
Now that you mention it...I don't recall any situation where I thought a bug smelled bad.
See! Also, bug actually like cleanliness.
You know how flies rub together hands? They do that to get them clean.
Fascinating...but still, from a human perspective, they don't exactly seem clean.
Going by the big fella's trivia, the hella nasty chick really is worse than a bug!
At the very least, I'm better than a bug *today*!
There no better or worse between bug and people! Let's just coexist with bug!
Who cares about bugs anyway! The only one I want to get along with is Byakuya!

Hifumi & Toko[]

Hifumi & Toko
*staaaaaaaaare*...
Oh, quit staring already. I-If you have something to say, spit it out.
I heard the news, Ms. Fukawa. Oh *yes* did I hear the wonderful news.
Your debut novel is finally receiving a manga! Explain yourself, madam!
What's to explain? It's all right there.
You know what I mean! You vehemently vilify manga and make a mockery of light novels!
Where do you get off allowing your work to be adapted into manga, you heathen?!
It's called... It's called a change of heart.
*Oh* how quickly do the tables turn!
I am genuinely curious how this came about after your coldhearted responses to my proselytizing!
I'm not saying I think all your otaku garbage is valid, but I acknowledge that some enjoy it.
Heavens me. The ice queen has defrosted. Plot twist. Of. The. Year.
S-Silence, you. Is that a problem?
Oh no, not at all. 'Tis wonderful news. And yet, a tinge of sorrow takes root in my heart.
My life has been turned on its head. I believed I would always be butting heads with you. I had faith.
Well...people change.
Nay! This "change" is too much to believe! I must know what brought it about!
That's none of your business... Things happened, I changed, the end.
Hum... What is this feeling...
It's like when the princess returns from vacation dressed like a slob, sans the bittersweet wonder.

Toko & Nagito[]

Toko & Nagito
One might describe this camp as the sum of all of our parts.
How lucky I am to get to witness the collective personification of hope before my very eyes!
And so it begins anew... "Unpleasant" is criminally underselling you.
Oh, sorry if I entered your field of view. I'll do my best not to be a bother.
That blind servility is so obnoxious too... I don't even know how I should respond.
I-I know what you're thinking! You're thinking the s-same about me, aren't you!
Me? I wouldn't dream of thinking anything so rude! Don't you worry about that.
Just having you in my peripheral vision means I have cause to worry...
I suppose you're right. From this day forth, I promise not to sit in front of you.
I'm at fault too... I should have moved seats the moment you appeared on the scene.
Th-This is a once-in-a-lifetime school event with f-friends...so I should eat with them.
Friends?
Wh-What, is it so *wrong* that even *I* have friends!?
You, on the other hand, chose to sit in front of me of all people, so maybe *you* have no friends.
Hey now... Even a piece of scum like me has friends.
Wait, you do?
I guess there's no accounting for taste. Although I'm sure you're thinking the same about me...
Heh, I can't argue that anyone who'd want to be my friend has questionable taste.
I-If you *do* have friends, go eat with them. Why do you insist on defiling my view?
Though I'm sure you're thinking the same about me!
Would...it be best if we both changed seats?
It would look too conspicuous at this point... It's a lose-lose situation no matter what we do...

Toko & Hiyoko[]

Toko & Hiyoko
Eww... Are you going for a swim too, gutter girl?
Wh-What, are you implying that the air will go stale if I'm on the beach?
It's more than the air, Miss Grungy. Did you even bathe beforehand?
O-Of course I did... I'll be in the same water as Byakuya after all.
I cleansed myself thoroughly... A-And soon, I'll be in the water Byakuya graced, and then...!
Eww, cut that out, it's creepy! You're gonna pollute the whole goddamn ocean!
Hmph, I bet *you* haven't bathed in days. You can't even change your clothes, can you?
I'll never forget the whole uproar you caused with your rank aroma...
What are you even talking about! I can too dress myself, and I can bathe myself too!
Besides, if I can't dress myself, how'd I get into my swimsuit, genius? Use your head sometime.
Unlike you, I think before I speak... Do you really think I can trust you?
Like you're one to talk, gutter girl! When it comes to P.U. panics, you're a repeat offender!
Quit calling me g-g-gutter girl, ugly! If anything's a gutter here, it's your mouth!
I am *not* ugly!
So you admit your mouth is a gutter!
I did no such thing!
...
Let's stop this. This quarreling is too dirty, even for us...
Ugh, I'm pissed. I'm gonna blow off some steam by hucking that pig vomit nurse into the gutter.

Toko & Komaru[]

Toko & Komaru
Wow, what a pretty ocean!
We'll swim around a bunch, and and and then build a bunch of sand castles, and and and then...
Oh, Toko! They have shaved ice! What flavor do you want?
Y-You're getting too worked up. What are you, a puppy out on a walk?
Says you, but there's plenty to be excited about here.
Going on a field trip to a tropical island virtual world with Ultimates is unfathomable to me!
Plus, it's my first trip with you, Toko.
Th-That's right, it's my first trip with friends. And...my first school event with friends as well.
Waaait a sec! Now you're going to get *me* all excited too!
Ooh, you're feeling it too now, huh?
Q-Quit your teasing... Come on, let's go. You wanted that shaved ice, right?
You know it! Let's get frosty!
Let's see, the flavors are...blue lime, hyuganatsu, pistachio, peach, dragonfruit...
That's an odd selection... Who's responsible for this?
Oh, I see! Those are the colors of the Monokubs! Blue, yellow, green, pink, and red...ish!
Ah...I see. What a shame that they deviated from the tried-and-true standard just for that.
I've never had any of these flavors in shaved ice. Wanna order different ones and share, Toko?
Huh? Share? As in, like...sharing a room, or sharing a bicycle?
Something...like that. We order different flavors and then split them, fifty fifty!
Urgh... This is too high concept for me! Is this a typical thing among friends!?
Friends often do that when eating together... But we don't have to if you're uncomfortable!
N-No...I'll do it. This is just another thing I need to get used to.
Oh, let's share all sorts of stuff during our stay and go through the entire beach hut menu!
I'm sure you'll get used to it if we keep at it, Toko.
Y-You mean we're going to do things like that all the time? There'll be no end to this field trip...

Toko & Monaca[]

Toko & Monaca
Hold on a second... What are you doing alone in a place like this?
Oh, hello, Toko. What brings you to a place like this yourself?
D-Don't answer a question with a question... Where are all your kid followers?
They're tied up with homework until lunch. We're planning to gather and play in the afternoon.
Homework, you say... And you're exempt?
Well...I like being with everyone, but I need some alone time every now and then.
Everyone's always worried about me and staying by my side because of my legs and all.
That makes me happy, but still... So keep this between you and me, okay?
It sounds like a rehearsed excuse to me... But I'll buy it, this time.
So what brings *you* here, Toko? It's not fair if you don't answer too.
I-I was...taking a walk with Byakuya, until I lost him...
Then I happened to notice you, so I came to make sure everything was okay.
Hmm... Less like taking a walk together, and more like stalking...
And less like losing him, and more like he gave you the slip.
I know you're a talented writer, Toko! You need to use your words better.
Y-You're such a little brat... And yet you expect me to keep your secrets!?
Well, you don't *have* to...but I'm pretty sure everyone would believe my words over yours.
Such an absurd child...but leaving her to her own devices seems like a recipe for disaster...

Shuichi & Kaede & Toko[]

Shuichi & Kaede & Toko
Wow, you really know a lot about this, Toko. Are you a music-lover in disguise?
Not really... I simply find classical adequate...
Good morning, Kaede, Toko. You two discussing music?
Good morning, Shuichi. That's right, Toko is quite the connoisseur, it turns out!
And not just for classical pieces and composers, but even for performers and conductors!
I-It's not like I'm immersed in it. As a writer, I expose myself to a bare minimum of culture...
That's pretty amazing. Personally, I knew nothing about classical music until Kaede taught me.
How do you expect one to write a romance novel about a performer and conductor without research?
Wait, you wrote a book like that? If I'd known, it would be at the top of my to-read list!
Who'd bother recommending a book to a piano freak like you without asking first...
Besides...asking you to read it just because it's about music...just reeks of self-consciousness...
I guess I see where you're coming from... But shouldn't you at least try to promote it?
I-I wouldn't expect a "detective" weirdo to understand my delicate conflicts...
But...I just said I see where you're coming from. And that's an awfully harsh take on detectives!
Romance between a performer and composer, huh... In fact, musician couples are hardly uncommon!
Ahh, is that so...
It's simply due to a matching sense of values or an understanding of each other's work...
Didn't you write a romance novel about musicians? You must admire couples like that, I bet!
My novels are entirely my own fantasies... Real-life relationship backgrounds play zero role.
So some things can't be written without knowledge, while others can ignore reality entirely, huh?
It's only natural. Take detective novels, where investigative knowledge is a necessity...
And yet, the murder motives and methods can often be quite ludicrous...
I...can't argue with that.
Reality and fiction overlap in some ways and differ in others... That's what makes it enticing.

Korekiyo & Angie & Toko[]

Korekiyo & Angie & Toko
Ugh, the less I know about these sacred treasures the better... That Monokuma is such a pest. Treasure hunts are for little kids and people who never grew up.
It truly is absurd, is it not? Atua never created any sacred treasures!
Considering it's one of Monokuma's activities, perhaps it's not worth worrying over.
But it's an act of blasphemy! I cannot condone that, so let us hurry and collect them.
Ah, but perhaps we can leave them be and simply let Atua strike down Monokuma in retribution!
So...can this ever-so-convenient Atua of yours show us where these treasures are?
Atua has spoken... This is to be our trial before graduation.
Speaking of someone who never grew up... Not that I expected anything useful out of you...
We're hardly pressed for time, so let us search leisurely in between sightseeing and chores.
I have reason to believe this task will take some time, so let us pace ourselves appropriately.
You know, you make a lot more sense than Little Miss Head-in-the-Clouds Bikini Model Reject...
Swimsuits are convenient! If you get dirty, you can just take off the top and hop into the shower.
That's why you wear it? How slovenly... Yet I suddenly feel like we're on the same wavelength.
Nyahaha, I was only joking. Cleanliness is godliness, so I change clothes appropriately!
H-Hey, now... Don't toy with my emotions!
Toko, Atua cannot ensure your longevity unless you practice proper cleanliness of clothes and body!
Tell your Atua to mind his own business...although I suppose he has *some* decency after all...
The Atua of which she speaks seems to be worshiped among nature. In conveying notions of hygiene, one can interpret this as a survival aspect of the faith.
I see... At least someone here makes sense.
Simply do as Atua commands, and he will ensure your safety no matter what.

Byakuya & Toko & Peko[]

Byakuya & Toko & Peko
Ahh, Byakuya, perfect from dawn to dusk!
Quit following me, and keep 65 feet away.
Okay! Ah, we're down to 65 feet... The distance between us has closed so dramatically!
Huh? Hey, you. Don't stand next to me with such conveniently unpleasant timing!
M-Me? I was just passing by to go get breakfast...
Here I am, spending quality time with Byakuya, and my doppelganger comes by and spoils everything! He may be perfect in every way, but his vision is little poor...
And at 20 meters away, what'll happen in that minuscule chance that he mistakes us!?
What do you mean, similar? Oh, like, hairstyle, glasses, and clothes?
That's right! We're exactly the same!
Hey, Toko...are you mocking me?
I'd never dream of such a thing! Ah, such a cold glare... Please, give me *more*!
I'm...a little disturbed that I'm already used to seeing you two interact.
*Please* don't get used to someone that repulsive.

Toko & Junko? & Mikan[]

Toko & Junko? & Mikan
...
...
...
Hey, what just happened? Did it just get awkward in here?
It...most certainly did get awkward.
I-I'm sorry! It's my fault, I know it!
No, I don't think it's anyone's fault. It was just like, a really awkward moment.
Hmm...I can tell. You looked at my face, and the atmosphere became tense...
It's nothing like that, I swear! It's not like we have any bad blood between us!
Not *bad* blood, but...not good either. And I feel like the more we talk, the worse it gets.
Urgh... Please forgive me... I-I'll change clothes real quickly and leave...
Ugh, you two are so negative... Toko, don't say things like that without proof to back it up!
Th-Then...just a question, but do you think you can get along with this group of people?
I... True, compatibility is a thing, but at the same time, opposites often attract, right?
Like you and Makoto's sister. And I find it surprising how often Mikan and Ibuki are together.
I suppose you have a point about Komaru and I...
Ibuki has the polar opposite personality, so maybe that's why she and I get along so well...
Right, sometimes it's difficult to get along with someone when you're too similar. Like, for instance, us three here...
Huh? What about me and you is similar?
Um...y'know, being girls in the same school year?
If a similarity like that can cause trouble, I feel like nobody at all would get along...

Junko & Toko & Mikan[]

Note: Event only obtainable when playing as Junko Enoshima.
Junko & Toko & Mikan
...
...
Whoa, why the gloomy mood? Was it something I did?
N-Not at all! In fact, I'm even happier now that you're here... I-I'm sorry!
C-Consider me the opposite... My brow furrows at the sight of another annoyance showing up...
You're both going off of opposite deep ends. I just came here to change clothes.
Everyone has bad mojo with someone...
In your case, Toko? You probably have more bad mojo with people than good.
I-I can't deny that... But even I have friends!
Yes, that's right...friends! Well...friend, singular!
Hmm, you mean Komaru? Well, crud. And here I thought *I* was your friend, Toko.
Huh? What kind of warped, twisted reality are you living in where all your classmates are friends?
Wait...I'm from the class next door, so I'm...
I-I'm so sorry! I got too ahead of myself!
Of course you're my friend too, Mikan. Isn't it a nice thought, being friends with all your peers?
I-I don't think you're buying what you're selling.
Heh, heh heh... Friends, huh...
You shouldn't buy into it either! Or are you okay with a cheap, watered-down sense of friendship?

Special Events[]

Potential of Talent[]

What are some ideas you have for unlocking new potential in your talent?
Potential? I already have hundreds of ideas to write about... But I suppose it's a good idea to listen to readers' opinions every now and then...
Maybe I'll ask the piano freak...
You've...read one of my books before, right?
I sure did!
It was a serious page-turner. I stayed up all night reading it and finished before I knew it.
Oh? I'm glad to hear that... What did you think?
Huh? I mean, I thought it was fascinating. I even cried a little at the end.
That's all well and good, but I'm asking you because I'm looking for new potential. For instance, if it was written differently... Don't you have any thoughts along those lines?
It's not like I've read all your books... I think you're asking the wrong person.
Th-Then hurry up and read them all... Apparently they're all in the library on this island.
W-Wait a sec! I need to polish my talent too!
Oh! But I can chew through a manga in no time! Were any of your novels adapted into manga? I mean, I'll read the novels when I have time too.
What!? So superficial... So *shallow*...
Who *cares* if you're into manga! If you want to read my novels, you have to read *words*!
I know, I know! Sheesh. Do you have any reccommendations? I'll give you my impressions as soon as I'm done.
Huh? L-Let's see here... Perhaps the one that came out around the end of last year...
Wait, *I'm* supposed to be asking the questions!
I lent Kaede my most recent work. Who knows if that'll lead to any kind of new potential...
I'd rather avoid the light novel otaku, but...
Well, well, well. Miss Fukawa seeks my opinion... Methinks I'll look to the skies for flying pigs.
T-Trust me, I'm not thrilled about it. But among those I rarely consult for their opinions...
...a 2D otaku like you ranks near the top. Not that you've even read any of my books.
Ah, but that is where you're wrong! Just one, however.
What? Y-You have? I thought people like you only read light novels and manga.
The bookworm heroine of a manga I'm into was, in fact, reading a book by none other than you.
It's basic otaku etiquette to support someone supported by something I support!
One of my novels appeared in a manga? This is the first I've heard of it...
Writers don't normally seek permission for minor references such as this, you see.
As for impressions of your novel...I found it frustrating and irritating! Two thumbs down!
What!? Irritating!?
E-Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but...what makes you say that?
Even if the work of a fellow outcast interests me, it's human nature to refuse to readily admit it! I-It's not like I think you should push for a number of different media adaptations! It's not like I'm fantasizing about writing the manga version! Don't get me wrong!
A-As if I'd task you with something like that. If I went to the trouble, I'd choose--
Oh? Do you have a manga author in mind? And here I thought you considered manga uncultured.
I do not! It's not like that at all!
Oho, you've mastered a classic tsundere syntax. Methinks you're warming up to otaku culture...
I am *not*! I *knew* asking you was a mistake...
At least I found a tiny speck of potential...
In times like this, consulting a friend is best.
Toko! Hey, check out this shelf! See it? It's packed with your books! Wow, you really have published over 80 of them, huh?
It's a familiar sight to me...
Ah, that's true... I'm sure you have a shelf of all your books at home too.
Even so, it blows me away. You've written a ton... I can't even imagine new potential in you. I talked to my brother about it too, but... finding new potential for a talent sure is tough.
You really are all about your brother... Do you have a brother complex quota or something?
N-No I don't! I'm just lucky to have family nearby. Why wouldn't I talk to him daily!?
Besides, it's you we're talking about right now. If you don't mind, wanna brainstorm together?
...
Huh? Is something wrong?
No, it's nothing. Anyway, you'll help me, right? In that case...among my books you've read, would you mind pulling out your favorites?
Yeah, sure! Wanna hear my impressions? I'm kinda nervous in front of the author herself!
Spending time like this right now...could be considered the beginning of a new potential.
Ugh, that sounded like a line from a third-rate young adult garbage novel. Forget I ever said it!

Summer Festival[]

There's a festival underway where you can try things unrelated to your talent!
I was assigned to the floor of the restaurant, so I'm stuck out here taking orders...
Wh-Why is it so busy? Can't you all come back later!?
Ugh. I'll take the cheeky little brat's order.
Dear me. The walking cloud of filth is going to bring me my food? Did you even bathe yesterday?
Y-Yes, I did... Smell me for yourself. Now, place your order or leave.
The only thing I want to smell is Monaca's sweet scent. And bring me your biggest parfait!
One day, you'll have more cavity than teeth.
I managed to do my job, despite being talked down to!
Hifumi's ordering way too much.
Come now, madam! I need more soda! And another order of fries while I'm at it!
How much are you planning to drink? Do you want that nasty nurse to talk your ear off again?
It's a festival, and I will drink as much as I darn well please! Bring me an entire pitcher!
Fine, I'll go grab one from the kitchen. That will make both of our lives easier.
My, how uncharacteristically cooperative. Might I expect it to rain spears on the morrow?
It's not on my head if you put yourself into a bloody sugar coma.
I responded to a demand with great flexibility!
Take over for me, Monomi.
Wha? W-Wouldn't people be upset if they were served food by a rabbit?
Food safety stopped mattering the second the Monokubs decided to run their own beach hut.
Just give me the trash bag. I'm more suited to cleaning than being a waitress.
Okay, sure. We can trade, but only for a little. I have been wanting to see what it's like.
I traded jobs with Monomi, the janitor, and silently did the cleaning.

Campfire[]

It's been a wild ride, but our time here is almost over. We're having a bonfire as a send-off!
A bonfire... Which is to say, my opportunity to dance with Byakuya at long last...
Will you dance with me, Byakuya?
No.
Right, got it!
In hindsight, it's not like you to mingle with classmates for a folk dance.
How are you able to endure it?
Huh?
Normally, I'd expect my demeanor to have the opposite effect on your fondness for me.
Yet there's hardly a sign of your feelings changing. I don't understand it.
My White Knight is talking about my feelings... This practically means we're married...
You have three seconds to answer.
Right! The reason for that is... you're my White Knight, Byakuya!
And...what does that mean?
That ice-cold demeanor of yours included... It's all part of what makes you Byakuya.
A Byakuya who passionately seduces me or spits his gum in my hand would be acceptable too, but...
The *true* Byakuya is the one who tells me to stay 50 meters away if I ask to be his gum dumpster.
And so...I'm fine with it.
And again...I don't understand it.
B-Byakuya talked to me about my feelings... This must be the magic of the bonfire...
I gazed at Byakuya from 50 meters away!
D-Dancing means...our hands touching, doesn't it?
Ugh, I don't *even* want to know what's going through that dandruff-caked head of yours.
Wh-What, am I bothering you? I was simply indulging in some fantasies...
Your *existence* bothers me. Just be careful you don't end up in any of Mahiru's photos.
I wouldn't go out of my way anyway... She takes her photos on her own.
When you're around, it lures Mahiru over. Go on, dance over there.
I have no interest in folk dances. The dances I like are far more delicate and profound.
So you say, but I know you want to dance like a hyperactive monkey with your classmates.
Wh-What's your problem? I know *you* want to be in a picture with your Byakuya or your one friend.
E-Even if that were true, what's so bad about it!?
And what's so bad about me actually wanting to dance!?
...
...
This is pointless, so let's stop. Commemorative photos at school events are normal, right?
Right. Dancing around at a school event may be stupid, but...it's perfectly normal.
I joined the folk dance, and got Mahiru to take a photo...
S-So this is a royal palace dance hall...
No, this is Jabberwock Island beach in a virtual world.
Y-You don't have to correct me... I was talking about how I feel!
If I dance with Byakuya, even a garbage dump would be like a royal palace to me...
True... Even in the royal palace, if there's no one to dance with, it's essentially a ruins.
Thinking about it that way, this beach may be the true royal palace for me.
C-Cut that out!
Huh?
It sounds persuasive when you say that, like it's a scene out of a movie!
Oh...I'm sorry.
I-I got so agitated that I need to sneeze...
ACHOO!
Whoa! I opened my eyes and there's the weirdo princess! But *I* wanna see Prince Byakuya!
Speaking like a scene out of a movie, Toko's personality changes when she sneezes...
No idea what you're talkin' about. But this would totally be a B horror flick or a teen comedy!
I missed out on dancing with Byakuya...but I had a dream where we danced like in a movie!

With Swimsuits[]

Event triggered when playing Development Mode using an S Rank or UR Rank card.
With Swimsuits
Ahh, what a wonderful camp this is. I can spend all day ogling my White Knight in his swimsuit. The sharp, sturdy lines of his body, the perfect balance of skin coverage to not be vulgar.
A swimsuit that exudes august grace without sacrificing practicality. I'd expect no less!
The problem is, *everyone* gets to see my White Knight in his trunks. Don't lay a hand on him...
And don't you dare let anyone lay a hand on me either, my beloved White Knight!
Hmph. It's been three years since we met.
Y-Yes, it has. Three years with me at your side effectively means we're married now.
Enough nonsense. You don't get to say we're married.
I'm so sorry... If I offended you, I will accept any punishment. You may spit on my hand!
Tsk. That's not what I meant, dammit. You just can't talk about things still in the works.
Wha?
I've arranged a large house with a red roof for the two of us to live in together.
Take my hand, Toko. I want to introduce you to the white dog we'll be caring for, forever.
Ohh, I-I can't believe how foolish I've been. Our married life begins now, my White Knight! Nooo, not my sarong! We're still outside!
You realize I can hear every word of that?
*gasp* I'm so sorry. You may spit on my hand!
If you're not going to make actual conversation, then shut up and quit spouting nonsense.
Shutting up! I-I must do anything my White Knight asks of me...to be ready for our future married life...
For the love of... What are you *talking* about?

My Future...[]

Event triggered when playing Development Mode using a UR Rank card.
Requires the player to have seen all other Friendship events during the run.
My Future...
Wow... So this is the legendary Toko Fukawa's newest novel huh? I'm getting butterflies already.
You said this one was kind of autobiographical?
Semi-autobiographical, yes. It's the story of an ethereal summer by the sea in a digital world.
I did change some details, of course. To start with, it's spring right now.
Which you did to better emphasize the themes?
If that were my primary goal, I could have made it dead winter in reality and high summer inside.
I set the story in summer to better portray the virtual world as an extension of reality.
Ooh, good to know! I'll have to write that one down.
But why? Is this about your manga?
Yup. Manga isn't just a collection of pretty pictures. It's a storytelling medium all its own.
If I want to learn how to write, I need to pay more attention to what I read.
Is that so. You're leeching off my work then?
Yours are an exception, Toko. I could never read them just for study.
For one, they're too good to not enjoy. Second, it's exciting to read something by a friend.
Learning from your writing is just another reason on the pile, if that makes sense!
Not that I have anything against you studying me. You could hardly find any better resources.
D-Dang, so confident.
Countless people have read my novels, and of course I get to hear many of their impressions.
I know better than anyone that what I write has a real effect on the people who read it.
Whoa... That's kind of incredible. I wonder if I'll ever get to that level.
How about you start with completing your first manga.
Only through the process of writing and being read will you be able to approach me.
Yeah, you're right. I'll do my best.
Oh yeah, one other thing. Since we got here, I've been drafting scenes in a notebook before bed.
Every night?
Yup. It's been really slow going, and I did skip a day here and there around the festival...
...but by the end, I managed to finish an outline of one story I think could turn out pretty good.
Once I've properly drawn it up, would you be my first reader, Toko?
Sure, but if you're trying to learn manga, shouldn't it be someone who knows the medium?
I want a friend to be my first reader--plus, no one but you knows about my dream yet.
Seriously? You haven't told anyone?
It's kind of an awkward subject when everyone around me is going into sports or public service.
So I'm always vague about my plans--I'll go to uni, but who knows after. Y'know, not quite lying.
I see... So I'm the only one...
I will tell everyone eventually. Makoto seems pretty worried about me.
It always comes back to your brother, doesn't it? Not that I'm surprised...

Appearances in Special Events for Other Characters[]

Potential of Talent[]

Would you please refrain from the glares, Toko? (Celestia Ludenberg)
Potential means little to me. I have more important things on my mind... To reside in a castle, waited on by handsome vampires. This is my dream, my raison detre.
Would you please refrain from the glares, Toko?
Wh-What, did I do something wrong? Have I polluted you from eye contact alone?
I wouldn't go that far, no. But I am curious as to why you're giving me the evil eye.
I was just impressed. Impressed with how self-centered your entire life is. They say our talents are for the hope of humanity, but what hope is there in a greedy gambler?
You complain about the lives of others, but isn't it more wasteful to live a life without a dream?
E-Even I have dreams. Dreams of a life of love with Byakuya...
Is that not a self-centered dream as well? Byakuya hasn't even agreed to it.
That's none of your concern!
I'm not judging you. That's simply how dreams and aspirations are. Simply because you have a talent doesn't mean you must live your life for the sake of others. Those who desire that manner of life are more than welcome to live it.
I mean, there are those who actually strive to change society itself too.
That's correct. And if I were to get involved, I would surely end up stealing their goals.
*sigh* That's really saying something...
Toko seems rather taken aback, but I paid her no mind.
Whatever, I'll keep up my daily practice. (Hiyoko Saionji)
If I wanted new potential, I'd be performing in public until my legs gave out, not being here. Not like any of the bozos here understand the beauty of my dance. *sigh*
Whatever, I'll keep up my daily practice.
And that...should do it...
Blech! It's the nasty, creepy doormat girl! What're you doing here!?
T-Trust me, I'm not thrilled to be here either... I just suddenly found myself here.
Oh right, your split personality and all that. No wonder I hate dealing with doormat girl.
Dang it, and here I thought I'd found the perfect quiet spot away from Mioda[1] and the rest.
I never fathomed watching a genuine traditional Japanese dance in a suburban show venue. I admit, there's a comically playful beauty to it. I'm intrigued. Is this always how you perform?
Y-You lie! Since when did you give out actual compliments!?
I figured you were rotten to your eyeballs, but I guess your eyes still do something...
I-Is that how you've been judging me!? I'm a writing prodigy, I'll have you know!
In fact, I can even write poetry to your dances, I'll also have you know!
I received actual compliments from Toko who happened to be watching me practice.
Writing and publishing a book globally, hmm? (Korekiyo Shinguji)
This is something I have been pondering. I hope to one day expand my work globally, or introduce Japanese anthropology to the world... Indeed, goals worthy of my pursuit.
Writing and publishing a book globally, hmm?
Surely your works have been translated into myriad languages, I take it, Toko?
Yes... If I recall, my novels have been translated into more than 40 different languages.
How impressive... We've so many talents gathered here, and yet... ...few are published authors. I am quite interested in hearing about your experiences.
What, are you trying to publish a book? I'm sure you could easily fill a book with all of your research findings. You're not writing a novel, are you?
No, I am not. Although...
If I am blessed with longevity, I would quite like to write a novel in my lifetime...
Well...anyone can fill a book if they wrote about their lives.
But a novel from someone like you would be one gloomy, bizarre novel, I imagine...
Now, now. "Love is all you need," it is said. In fact, I would like to write a romance novel.
Sharing the same genre as you sounds dreadful...
Toko had a wealth of advice to impart on the subjects of writing and publishing.

Summer Festival[]

Yo, Tokes! Wanna get something to eat? (Ibuki Mioda)
I worked my butt off as a waitress, and my break time has finally arrived...
I'm so famished, I feel like my stomach is fused to my back! I gotta get my grub on with someone!
Yo, Tokes! Wanna get something to eat?
Y-You aren't even my friend, what right do you have to call me by that name!?
What, you only allow nicknames from people you consider good buddies?
In thaaat case...I guess I have no choice but to call you Mistress Fukawa!
So let's grab us some grub together!
Urgh... No matter what you call me, being around you feels so wrong...
I want to eat with a sullen Toko!
How's the traffic out in the hall, Toko? (Kokichi Oma)
I'm supposed to work as a janitor at a restaurant, so I was obediently cleaning...
Why do I have to be stuck working here when there's a festival going on out there...
Well, time to go give the others a hand now that mine aren't tied. Too bad that's a lie!
How's the traffic out in the hall, Toko?
C-Can't you see I'm way too busy to talk to you right now!?
Whoa, you're right! This is a huge turnout!
I'm not the least bit happy about it... What's the point in making a novelist do this...
Wait, I can use this experience in my fantasies!
While working at a small eatery in town, my prince/gourmet reporter Byakuya visits, and...
Man, it sounds like you've got a fun life, Toko!
Toko is lost in her own world, so I served food in her stead!
Gah! You came to watch, Toko!? (Komaru Naegi)
Alongside the Ultimate students, I'm tasked with juggling as a street performance...
I thought I practiced plenty, but...now that the festival has started, I'm pretty nervous...
Gah! You came to watch, Toko!?
O-Of course I did... We're friends after all.
Eheheh... Once I'm done here, I'm totally gonna drop by the restaurant you're working at.
I can't recommend it... It's sweaty and noisy and in a perpetual state of pandemonium.
That doesn't sound much different from here. And I just keep messing up too...
But I feel more motivated now that you're here. I'm gonna give this another shot. Check it out!
I tried jugling for Toko...and succeeded!

Campfire[]

I heard a sneeze, and then...goddammit. (Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu)
I got some spare time today. Guess I could help someone out or somethin'.
I heard a sneeze, and then...goddammit.
She comes to, alone on the beach at twilight... Sounds like the prologue to an amnesia romcom.
And yo, what the fuck is that supposed to mean!? I was hoping to find my White Knight, not *you*!
Shut your mouth and help clean. We need to clear the area before we can assemble the bonfire.
Damn, man. You got balls as big as the rest of you! But nein! I will not be doing any labor!
Just take a bit of sand, and... Achoo!
Hm? Did I black out for a second?
That little snake. Man, what an unrepentant asshole.
Left alone, I had no choice but to finish clearing the bonfire space before everyone else arrived.
Ghost stories, eh? Is Toko sitting it out? (Hiroko Hagakure)
A bonfire, eh? I'm reminded of one back in elementary school. Those were the days.
Ghost stories, eh? Is Toko sitting it out?
Wh-Who would want to participate in that... Does an adult your age enjoy such childish games?
I can enjoy children's games *because* I'm an adult. It's more fun to goof around while you can.
Though adults have their own ways of goofing off.
E-Even I would join in once in a while if it wasn't ghost stories...
No...forget it. Suffice it to say, Byakuya isn't participating so neither will I.
Toko and I watched the kids having fun...
Toko, let's dance! (Komaru Naegi)
I was worried about being able to enjoy a field trip full of people I didn't even know...
But now that it's about to end, I feel all sad. I've gotta make the most of this last event.
Toko, let's dance!
Do...you *seriously* think I'd do that?
Not really, no. But it was worth asking!
Well, I'd never turn down a dance with Byakuya.
Ah, yes... A dance at the royal palace, Byakuya appearing with his diamond shoes...
Uh, Earth to Toko? Need me to drag you back down to reality? You're with me right now.
Huh!? Where's the royal palace dance hall!?
This is a beach on Jabberwock Island.
I'm glad you were here with me, Toko.
Wh-What is this all of a sudden?
It's nothing. You're the same no matter where and when, Toko. Never change.
I talked with Toko about our field trip memories!
Yo! C'mere if you don't like ghost stories! (Miu Iruma)
Telling ghost stories? Kokichi, you son of a... Always trying to start some shit... In that case, I'ma tell sex stories! Steamy tales are like kryptonite to ghosts, or so they say!
Yo! C'mere if you don't like ghost stories!
Believe me, between you and the ghost stories it's a coin flip... I'm already having second thoughts.
Aww, c'mon! And here I was all impressed with your bi-annual actual good decision!
Well, if a ghost or monster did appear, you're the best candidate around for a human shield.
Nuh-uh! *You're* gonna be the shield, dweeb!
Time flew by while I argued with Toko!

With Swimsuits[]

With Swimsuits (Kiyotaka Ishimaru)
You there, children! Cease all aqueous activities until you've completed stretches!
Shut it, loudmouth! Keep butting in and we'll beat you like the monster you are!
Monokuma! What's that behind your back? There's no littering in the ocean!
It's not trash. We're playing a game where I hide Monomi's swimsuit and she looks for it.
Byakuya! The beach belongs to everyone! You can't reserve this much space for yourself!
The only person I've asked to get out of my space is Toko.
I-It just looks like he's hogging the space... because no one wants to be anywhere near me.
Man, Kiyotaka. Does he ever get tired of that?
He doesn't have much chance to use his talent.
The kid's probably thrilled out of his mind. Plus, he wrangles troublemakers like Monokuma.
You boys! Quit lazing around the beach and get some proper exercise!
Urgh. Does he mean us?
I take back what I said. The kid's gone mad with power.
I would *never*! I am merely enthusiastic about my duties!
That's not how anyone else sees it. Man, I can't hear shit but your damn whistle.
We're at the beach. Chill out, let people have fun.
I blow this whistle for that very purpose! I aim to make this a space where everyone can relax.
But if you insist on going after every minor infraction, you're going to burn yourself out.
What good is that whistle if you run out of air and can't blow it on Monokuma's next scheme?
Mnh... You make a very convincing argument.
Damn, Ryoma. Smooth talkin'.
Hmph. I just spoke my mind.
It appears I will need to reconsider my enforcement standards with that in mind.
I will put my all into creating a comfortable environment for all to relax and work hard!
With Swimsuits (Komaru Naegi)
I already finished changing. You ready yet, Toko?
H-How is this?
Ooh, that looks great! You even added a sarong? That's so stylish!
S-Stylish? Does that mean Byakuya will definitely ask to marry me?
I-I'm not sure about that, but... I like your swimsuit!
I-I see... Yours isn't bad either.
You went overboard with the bikini, yet you retained your youthfulness. That's something.
Is...that a compliment? Jeez, you could at least *try* to compliment me like a human being.
I don't make a habit of saying things I don't believe... As an author, my words are important.
But yes...it suits you well.
Heheh...wow, did hell freeze over?
Wh-Why don't *you* accept a compliment like a human being! See if I compliment you again!
I'm just teasing.
Anyway...can I go back to my normal look now? If I wear this much longer I'm going to be sick.
Aww, c'mon, this is like a fashion show. Let's at least pretend like we're on the catwalk.
I-I refuse... Did you seriously think I'd agree to something so asinine?
I know it's embarrassing, but...with friends, I think fooling around a little would be fun.
You know, strutting out like models just for laughs. Friends would do stuff like that!
Friends sure come with a lot of maintenance...
I've never done that before...but oops, I don't think I'm feeling up for it anymore.
I guess I was just excited from putting on a swimsuit, but I've totally lost the mood now.
Things like that just aren't for us. Let's just take our time. We can at least have fun complimenting each other and making plans for tomorrow.
Toko...
But feel free to run to your brother like a dog and show him that swimsuit of yours.
Th-That won't be necessary! I'll see him tomorrow anyway!
With Swimsuits (Korekiyo Shinguji)
Telling chilling tales on the beach at this hour... Kehehe, oh, what fun.
Wh-Why do I have to go along with this... I wanna go home already...
I couldn't just ignore the invitation... And I didn't want to go alone.
Strange stories from other cultures sounds fascinating. Surely Korekiyo has some fun ones.
Open invitation to hide behind me if you get scared. Offer valid only to chicks, of course!
I wasted my energy for this? I ain't in the mood. See ya later.
Aww, c'mon. At least hear ONE story while we're all here... Puhuhuhuhu.
How do you all cope with the concept of death? Some of you may consider death the end of all things, that which ultimately annihilates all. I have a different take. The souls of the departed live on as spirits... This I know.
This is a story about my attempt at necromancy.
Whoa, that was terrifying! I knew you wouldn't let us down, Korekiyo...
I-I didn't hear anything... Komaru, is it over? Can I uncover my ears now?
Him telling it in his swimsuit made it just absurd enough. I freakin' loved it!
I am glad. Personally, I have little interest in telling ghost stories purely to sate curiosity.
If your takeway is that spirits of the departed exist, then my ghost story served its purpose.
There, I stayed for one story. I'm leavin' now. You don't mind, do you?
If you wanna leave even after that hotness, that's up to you...
I for one would love to hear more.
It's fascinating hearing about how other cultures handle both life and death!
Do whatever you all please... I'm out of here too.
Um, uhh...I'm not sure what to do. Now I feel bad for the person who invited me...
Hey, I've been wondering... Just who is this person who invited you, anyway?
Huh?
What?
Oh? Wait a moment...
Holy crap. You gotta be yankin' my chain... I can't freakin' remember...
Th-There aren't many people on this island... If we ask around, maybe we can--
I am not so sure. Just who facilitated this gathering? This may never be made clear.
I...I'm g-g-going back! I'm never coming to this beach at night ever again!
Ah, wait, Toko! What about making bonfires on the last day!?
...
Sister... Did you get lonely not being able to talk to me?
Kehehe... I shall look into this matter at another time.

My Future...[]

Angie's Future... (Angie Yonaga)
Come one, come all! This is a special exhibit of works created by Atua on this very island.
I've booked motel rooms for the exhibit, so be sure to check them starting from the left.
Appreciating fine art inspires me like nothing else. I'm gonna check it out right now!
I doubt Swimsuit Girl's works will inspire you... But I admit my curiosity is piqued as well.
Party of two? Please go ahead and enter. As today is an exception, admission does not cost blood.
Heya! I'm here to window shop.
I'm sure Angie's art is too good for the likes of me, but it's a great opportunity to witness it.
Atua has spoken... Refuse none who come. You may pass.
Ah, Mahiru and Hiyoko. Did you enjoy the art exhibit?
Of course! Your artistic tastes are your one redeeming quality.
It was...how do I put it...a very powerful display. Lots of energy. It was great.
It felt like my soul could be sucked away at any second. Um, in a good way, of course.
Taking pictures of people is my specialty, but this made me want to photograph your works too.
Oho! You have a fine eye as well, Mahiru!
Your photos of this art would be the best thing ever! I wanna see it! Do it, do it, do it!
Nyahahaha, splendid! Atua gives His permission, even if it means bleeding red ink!
With photos, many more people would be able to experience these works.
I can envision many who are overcome by it and collapse.
C-Collapse? Has that happened before?
Oh, it has. But that's okay! It just goes to show how good it truly is.
...
So, Mahiru...what do you say? Would you like to collaborate with me?
Sure, if you're up for it. It sounds like a good challenge for me.
Excellent! I'll be looking forward to it
Hey closet nudist, you'd better make only the best art so you don't hold Big Sis Mahiru back.
Atua will see to their perfection.
It seems we have naturally arrived at the new potential we sought on this field trip.
This too is thanks to Atua's guidance.
My Future... (Hajime Hinata)
Aww crap...
Here, you dropped this.
Oh, thanks, Maki.
You're reading all sorts of books lately with no regard for genre. What's this turn of events?
How do I put this... I feel a need to expand my horizons. I'm surrounded by specialists...
Listening to everyone and researching the things that pique my curiosity...
It just felt like the appropriate thing to do during this field trip.
Hmm... I see.
I read a book of yours, Toko. Despite being a genre I don't normally read, I read it all night.
Wh-What? Flattery will get you nowhere. I belong to Byakuya, I'll have you know!
Expand your horizons, huh... Have you gotten anywhere with that yet?
Don't just ignore me!
Y-Yeah... I've had decent results, I think.
I made an effort to focus on things around me and found all sorts of interesting stuff.
I haven't exactly found anything to specialize in or devote my life to, but...
Moving forward, I'm going to take a more proactive approach to things that interest me.
I see... That's a good thing.
Honestly...my orphanage had a girl who was really troubled about her future.
Next time I visit, I'll suggest that she try things like you, taking a more proactive approach.
Was I helpful?
She once told me that she's envious of Ultimates.
I told her...it's nothing to envy. For some, a talent brings nothing but misery and despair.
That I think it's best to live life doing what you enjoy, together with those you cherish.
...
But she wouldn't accept it. She started crying, saying she didn't want to think of the future.
I don't blame her for feeling envious. One doesn't get to decide their talents, after all.
Those who have talents can't help it, and the opposite is true as well.
Sounds about right.
Being able to choose your path, or having many choices, is very fortunate, in my eyes.
As you said, Hajime, I want her to be mindful of what's around her, to look around.
You really do care about children, huh, Maki?
I'm nothing like that.
Sure seems like it to me though.
One more good talk with that girl and I bet she'll see your affection, at the very least.
My Future... (Hifumi Yamada)
So? What say you? My very first comic, worthy of commemoration and acclaim!
The art is great, and it was really interesting!
A story about daily life at a special academy... It's what I imagine Hope's Peak is like.
Right... It has a strange charm to it. It only covers little incidents, yet it was exciting.
Precisely! The theme of this work was "the peculiarities of daily life"!
I figured it would be full of perversion, knowing you're the one behind it...
But apparently you can write wholesome stuff too. I'm surprised!
True, my fanfics are of the risque variety, but targeting a general audience isn't so bad either.
As the Ultimate Fanfic Creator, this was the ideal project for my camp assignment!
When you started telling me about some incomprehensible plot, I thought you'd lost it...
But judging by their reactions, it sounds like you fixed it to be less unsavory.
Wait, you didn't read the manga I gave you!? I thought you finally accepted manga into your life!
A-And what if I did... Why should I have to waste my time to read your drivel?
Um...it was really good, you know! It even had unrequited love developments that you'd enjoy.
That's good...but not good enough for you to froth at the mouth about it incessantly like usual.
I...guess it comes down to taste.
Oh? What's this? I feel as though things are headed in a somewhat unsettling direction!
I-I mean it that I found it interesting!
Right. I can't claim to have understood all the gags...but I enjoyed it.
N-Noted... I'm not sure if I should thank you or spiral into a deep depression.
Much like how I'm the Ultimate Writing Prodigy, and not a fanfic writer or scriptwriter...
...you're the Ultimate Fanfic Creator and nothing more.
You wound me, madam! I have a heart too, I'll have you know!
But this is your first original comic, right? It's not really my thing, but it's still impressive.
It *is* impressive! Like I said, the art is great, and it's a breeze to read!
If I tried to draw this, it'd look *way* worse...
For all your praise, I can tell it fell short of being enthralling... My battle damage grows.
Um...I'm not a big comic fan myself, so it might sound insincere coming from me, but...
You really do have amazing skills, so I think you could draw anything moving forward.
Moving forward, you say...
Yes, you're right. How naive of me to expect my first original work to be perfection.
If I reexamine the flaws and write a second work, a third...then surely...
I'll catch the attention of publishers, serialize, get anime, movie, stage, Hollywood adaptations!
And my legions of fans will show their love with a deluge of fan works! A bright future awaits me!
Uh, speaking of naive...
Well...I say go for it. Sure beats giving in to criticism and throwing in the towel, right?
My Future... (Ibuki Mioda)
Thanks for coming out tonight! That was Monomi on vocals and the one and only moi on guitar!
Yes, thank you so much for being here. I was scared at first, but that was fun.
Hah. You sure know how to shred, little Ibuki. Not that you'd stand a chance against me!
Mhmm, it was a very pleasant performance. And there's a charm to Monomi's awkward singing.
That was a lovely song--sweet and bouncy, but with a powerful core. Not what I would expect from you.
Yeah, it's way outside my wheelhouse, but this one was for Monomi, not me!
I've never tried composing for anyone else before, but it was a blast!
And this is a secret, but I've actually got a few more in my back pocket for other people!
Fascinating. I'd love to hear more.
You spoke up, so I'll play yours first, Rantaro
Huh? My song?
I haven't wrote the lyrics yet, so you'll have to make do with some humming instead~ Mhmhmmm!
Wow. It has a kind of exotic elegance, just like Rantaro.
Is that how people see me? Wow, I never would have imagined.
I'm really glad you like it! I packed it with every single thing I think about you, Rantaro!
You're up next, Tsumugi! Fwofwoom fwoom, whah wah, bam bam!
Th-That certainly was some obnoxious otaku bait. Not at all to my liking.
I loved it, personally. It was like a medley of anime theme songs from my childhood.
I took inspiration from all the hits of our generation and mixed them up with my own flavor!
Next better is you, Toko! Zing zing, za-zaaam! Badabada-bing!
Why... Why does that sound like your usual dreck!?
Do you even have ears, you nasty washrag? This sounds nothing like her usual music!
I don't have the sanity to spare listening to that kind of noise.
Structurally it's similar to my solo parts, yeah! But I want to know what lyrics you'd write for it!
You're incredible, Ibuki. How many songs did you write during camp?
Nah, I barely got through half of what I wanted to do! I was hoping to write one for everyone here!
I was thinking back on my time here and realized how little I hung out with some of you peeps!
Between that, getting washed out to sea, surrounded by Monobeasts...
...there just wasn't enough time to write it all! So finishing will be my post-camp homework!
Once I've got them all done, I'll send the songs out to you guys, so look forward to that!
As long as mine is like Monomi's or Rantaro's and not loud or scary, I can't wait!
Oh, I would love the chance to sing a song written for me by you, Ibuki. I'm so excited.
