Maizono-san's Treasure[]

  • Maizono-san's Treasure by Tamura Muto (Pages 005 - 014)
Chihiro begins to have a meltdown in the cafeteria at the thought of being stuck at Hope's Peak forever. Kiyotaka butts in, telling him not to bring down the group's morale. Aoi, who had been trying to comfort Chihiro, tells Kiyotaka to leave him alone. Makoto and Sakura attempt fruitlessly to defuse the situation. Only when Sayaka arrives in the cafeteria does everyone cease their fighting.
Later, Makoto and Sayaka walk together in the hallways. He praises her for the way she handled the situation, and how her mere presence is able to calm everyone down. Sayaka asks Makoto if he listens to her group's music, and he confirms that he has. He says it was special to listen to, because they knew each other in middle school. Makoto realizes that Sayaka is happy when others listen to her music, and suggests she sing for everyone stuck in Hope's Peak. Sayaka hesitates, explaining she is scared to sing alone as the songs are meant for her whole group. Instead, Sayaka offers to invite Makoto to one of her concerts when they all escape the school together. They agree they will all need to escape Hope's Peak Academy together, but in the final panel Makoto says that he will never get the opportunity to see Sayaka sing.

Dangancanon[]

  • Dangancanon by Coroha Kiritomo (Pages 015 - 022)

Chihiro wakes up one morning from a bad dream. He joins the rest of his classmates in the cafeteria, and begins counting all of the good things and all of the bad things that have happened that morning. Mondo notices, and asks what Chihiro is doing. He explains that, as a programmer, things always make the most sense to him when they are turned into numbers. Mondo replies that Chihiro's methods are depressing, then asks why he is only counting by ones; Mondo explains that there is a big difference between something really good, and something a little bad.

With this new method in mind, the two continue to count the events of the day; Hifumi gets 100 bad points for talking about Princess Piggles, but Kiyotaka gets 5 million good points for making everyone omurice. Mondo explains the numbers come from his heart. Chihiro replies that asking his heart will take courage, but Mondo is sure to encourage him and remind him of how smart he is.

Later, Chihiro joins Mondo in the boy's locker room to train, but is killed by Mondo. Still, Chihiro sees this as a step towards hope. As he lays dying he insists that, no matter how many points towards despair pile up, it will all be okay so long as one shred of hope exists.

Solidarity! Hot Pot of Despair!![]

  • Solidarity! Hot Pot of Despair!! by S. Kosugi (Pages 023 - 032)

Makoto and Hifumi are sharing a soak in the bath when Mondo, Kiyotaka, and Yasuhiro arrive and start putting vegetables into the water. After toweling off, Makoto discovers that everyone is sick of eating the raw food in the kitchens, and they want to create a hot pot. They all agree that cooking in the kitchen is smarter than cooking in the bath, and so decide to make a yaminabe hot pot. Everyone begins to add their favourite ingredients, including protein powder from Sakura and chili oil from Makoto. Hifumi adds his "favourite dish", which is one of his Pudgy Princess figures. Chihiro, misunderstanding the instructions, puts Alter Ego into the pot. Makoto becomes apprehensive at the thought of everyone contributing to the dish, but Kyoko reminds him that by adding poison to the hot pot the culprit will kill everyone and violate the school rules.

In the end, the hot pot is so despair-inducing from all the ingredients that a second trial is never held.

Mind Swap[]

  • Mind Swap by Zuzu Kamiya (Pages 033 - 042)

Toko loses her diary somewhere in the school and goes looking for it. However, Byakuya finds it first. Panicked, she runs over to stop Byakuya from picking it up, and the two collide with each other, falling unconscious. When Byakuya wakes, he finds that his mind is inside Toko's body. Monokuma admits that he'd modified the diary to allow them to switch places. Byakuya tries to wake Toko, but she is too distracted by being inside Byakuya's body.

Byakuya tries to ask Monokuma to change them back, but he has disappeared. Makoto shows up next, surprised to see Toko and Byakuya together. Toko finally wakes, and Makoto notices that she (as Byakuya) is acting a lot like Toko. Byakuya pulls her aside, explaining that they have switched places. Toko falls easily into the role of Byakuya, telling Makoto to leave them alone. However, she gives herself a nosebleed upon hearing her given name said in Byakuya's voice.

Byakuya drags Toko away, telling her that she should stay in her room for the rest of the day so as not to ruin his image. Byakuya then adds that Toko smells disgusting, and that he will be giving her body a shower. This causes Toko to daydream about Byakuya seeing her naked, but he shuts down the idea upon realizing the implications. Seeing the two speaking and thinking they are arguing, Yasuhiro hurries over to warn them not to fight so close to a flight of stairs. Toko panics when Yasuhiro touched her, and the two of them are knocked down the stairs.

Yasuhiro, thinking he has accidentally killed them, begins declaring his innocence. However, the fall down the stairs manages to switch Byakuya and Toko back. As everyone gathers to see what Yasuhiro is yelling about, Byakuya sneezes, revealing that while Toko has gone back to her own body, Geocide Jack is still inside of his.

Celestia Ludenberg Theater[]

  • Celestia Ludenberg Theater by mercre (Pages 043 - 050)

Celestia takes over the position of narrator, monologuing about her gambling abilities. She first proves them to Monokuma using a simple mind trick, then explains that it is "utilization of luck" rather than "strength of luck" that makes her so good at gambling.

In the cafeteria, Celestia dreams about the hundred million yen that was promised to them as their next motive. Hifumi arrives with a cup of tea, but is bumped by Genocide Jack and spills the tea all over Celestia's shoes. Hifumi panics and offers to lick it up, but Celestia snaps and tells him she doesn't want his tongue anywhere near her shoes. Makoto arrives next, noticing that Celestia's shoes are dirty. She offers for Makoto to gamble with her, the loser's punishment being to lick the others shoes.

Makoto is reluctant, but Celestia eventually talks him into a "mind reading" game. However, she asks Hifumi to help her cheat. When he says that cheating is unfair, she reminds him that Makoto is the Ultimate Lucky Student; cheating actually levels the playing field between them. With Hifumi's help, Celestia manages to guess the first two out of Makoto's three cards. Makoto catches Hifumi before the third card is played, and so Celestia agrees to play the final round without cheating. Still, she manages to guess Makoto's card.

Celestia laughs, saying that he has bad luck for someone with his Ultimate talent. Makoto, resigned to his fate, bends forward to lick Celestia's shoes. At the same moment, Genocide Jack comes running through the room. She accidentally lets go of one of her scissors, which goes flying past where Makoto's head had been only moments before. Celestia remarks with amusement that Makoto's luck is better than she thought; if he hadn't lost the game, he will be dead.

Badminton of Hope and Despair![]

  • Badminton of Hope and Despair! by Tsuneyoshi (Pages 051 - 058)

Aoi asks Sakura, Chihiro, Kyoko, and Makoto to join her for a game of badminton. They begin with trying to rally, but Sakura's strength knocks the birdie so hard that it embeds itself into the wall. They try again, and agree to hit it towards Chihiro this time. He warns them that he has never had the strength to return the birdies properly, but Sakura vows to hit it back no matter where it lands. Chihiro swings at the birdie, sending it towards the ground. Sakura, staying true to her word, dives for it and hits it before it lands. Everyone stares on in awe, and Makoto notes that, as friends, they can help compensate for each other's weaknesses and perhaps even survive the Killing Game.

Aoi hit the birdie next, sending it directly into Kyoko's forehead. She apologizes profusely, while Makoto looks on and questions if they really can all survive after all.

Despair Pool[]

  • Despair Pool by Sao Mizuno (Pages 059 - 068)
Makoto, Toko, Aoi, Kyoko, Sakura, and Yasuhiro decide to visit the pool. They find Byakuya already there, seeking some peace and quiet so he can read. Everyone reminds him that pools are for swimming, and encourage Sakura to throw him in the water. When they pull him from the pool, they find that the knock to his head has given Byakuya amnesia. Makoto quickly fills him in on their situation, and Byakuya uncharacteristically thanks him. Everyone is shocked to see that Byakuya's personality has seemingly changed.
The group tries to come up with a way to change Byakuya back, including ideas such as feeding him protein, turning his swim trunks backwards, and poking both of his eyes with their fingers. Toko suggests true love's kiss, and everyone encourages her to give it a try. When she offers this solution to Byakuya, he tells Toko that since he doesn't remember her it wouldn't be fair to kiss her now. This causes Toko to faint.
Byakuya then tells the group that, despite their efforts, their ideas are terrible. He begins to doubt their friendship, or the fact that he ever saw them on equal footing with him academically. Everyone quickly realizes that this Byakuya is just as obnoxious as the original one, and Sakura decides to throw him back into the pool. This immediately clears Byakuya's amnesia, and he demands to know who threw him in the water while everyone else is glad to see him back to normal.

Chihiro Fujisaki's Manly Way[]

  • Chihiro Fujisaki's Manly Way by Kingin (Pages 069 - 076)

Chihiro sits in the dressing room, lamenting to Alter Ego about how he wants to be more manly. Genocide Jack overhears the conversation, and confronts Chihiro in the cafeteria. Jack says it is her life's goal to help Chihiro find his true manly self -- so he can grow into a "stud" and she can kill him. Although somewhat reluctantly, Chihiro agrees to hear Genocide Jack out. She suggests that the best way to become manly is to first learn how to become girly. Jack ropes Kyoko into the scheme, seeing her as one of the more "girly" members of their class.

They start by getting Chihiro to hold a bouquet and wear a flower crown. When that doesn't seem to work, they suggest that Chihiro try dressing like Celestia. Kyoko notes that, in the gothic lolita clothes, Chihiro looks "too good". Next, they suggest that he try to emulate Aoi. Chihiro wonders if eating so much might help him build muscle. Jack turns to Kyoko, and accuses her of not actually knowing the secret to femininity. Kyoko agrees that she doesn't, and then states that she believes that Chihiro was already very feminine.

A few days later, after following Aoi's lifestyle, Chihiro shocks everyone by showing up to breakfast with large muscles.

Buddy-Buddy Despair Magazine[]

  • Buddy-Buddy Despair Magazine by Yoko Umezu (Pages 077 - 080)

Makoto notices that Chihiro is often alone, and decides he will try to befriend him. Byakuya just so happens to be nearby at the time, and so Chihiro invites them both to talk with him. Makoto asks about Chihiro's programming, and they proceed to describe their latest project in detail. However, the terminology is too technical for Makoto and he doesn't understand any of it. When he tries to explain so to Chihiro, Byakuya butts in and tells Chihiro to continue talking.

They ended up speaking until curfew, with Makoto not understanding anything Chihiro is saying. He feels bad, wondering if he's done something insincere even though the smile on Chihiro's face brought him joy. On the way back to their rooms, Makoto asks Byakuya if he can explain what Chihiro had been talking about. Byakuya laughs, saying that it is no surprise Makoto can't understand it. Makoto again asks for Byakuya to explain it to him, and Byakuya deflects. Makoto then asks if Byakuya even understood what Chihiro was talking about, and Byakuya begins to shout that he did, swearing so on the Togami name, but that he refuses to tell Makoto anything about it.

Kirigiri-san Tries Her Best[]

  • Kirigiri-san Tries Her Best by Asa Uduki (Pages 081 - 088)

Aoi and Sayaka arrive early to breakfast. While waiting for everyone else to arrive, Aoi asks if Sayaka can teach her how to dance. Sayaka agrees, but before they can begin Kyoko arrives. Aoi invites Kyoko to join them, and although Kyoko is at first reluctant she eventually relents. Sayaka and Aoi each dance, showing off their moves and cute smiles. Kyoko goes next, but Aoi and Sayaka both note that she is incredibly stiff. Sayaka reminds her to have fun while dancing, and the three continue to practice.

Just as Kyoko is getting the hang of it, Makoto arrives for breakfast. Kyoko shows off her smile and her new dance move just as Makoto walks in, and the two locked eyes. He stares at her in silence and shock. Sayaka and Aoi begin to yell at Makoto, as Kyoko sulks in a corner. Makoto, confused, tries to defend himself, but they blame him for making Kyoko upset.

Kyoko is visiting the library when she sees Makoto and Chihiro together. She tries to watch their conversation, and sees what she believes is Makoto and Chihiro kissing. Embarrassed and confused, Kyoko decides to gather more evidence before confronting the two of them. She begins to observe Makoto and Chihiro, noticing that they are often seen together.

Deducing that what she saw is true, she confronts the two about the nature of their relationship. Makoto and Chihiro, confused, explain that what Kyoko witnessed in the library was simply Makoto removing an eyelash that was stuck in Chihiro's eye. Kyoko, even more embarrassed at her blunder, tells Makoto and Chihiro to forget the whole thing while running off with a blush.

Chick Manju Royale[]

  • Chick Manju Royale by Ryota Momoi (Pages 095 - 100)

Aoi arrives to the cafeteria with a box of chick-shaped manju she found in the storehouse. Yasuhiro advises them not to eat it, saying he'd seen the future. Sakura glares at him, however, and he changes his mind. Kyoko takes a manju and immediately bites its head off, shocking both Makoto and Aoi. Mondo declares he doesn't need any of the cute manju, but Chihiro manages to convince him. Before they can eat it, however, Kiyotaka interrupts and reminded them they needed to pray first.

Celestia takes her manju, but determines it won't go well with her tea. She throws it to Hifumi instead, calling him her "dog". Sakura takes a manju next, but accidentally crushs it in her hands with her strength. Aoi offers her another one, but she refuses to take more than she is owed. Aoi next tries to feed Byakuya, who refuses it. As Aoi tries to stuff it into his mouth, Byakuya smacks it away. Genocide Jack leaps for the manju, saying that eating it will be like sharing an "indirect kiss" with Byakuya. Finally, Aoi approachs Makoto but all of the manju are gone. Yasuhiro laughs, noting that for the "Ultimate Luck", Makoto is proving to be unlucky.

The next morning, Makoto, Byakuya, and Sakura arrive at the cafeteria to find everyone that had eaten a manju face down on the floor. Someone asks where Aoi had found the manju, and she says they were on the floor of the storehouse, covered in dust. Monokuma pops in to declare that he ordered them a really long time ago.

Hifumi-Style Diet[]

  • Hifumi-Style Diet by Mikan Fuyuno (Pages 101 - 108)

Aoi and Makoto walk in on Kiyotaka encouraging Hifumi to do sit-ups. Kiyotaka explained that Hifumi desires to become the "ideal slim hot guy", and he is encouraging him. Makoto pledges to support Hifumi and his diet.

Three days later, Hifumi has completely slimmed down, and somehow also stretched out; his head now touches the ceiling. He sits down at breakfast and takes a single bite of a croissant before declaring that he is full. He explains to Aoi that the diet has decreased the size of his stomach to that of a hamster's. Hifumi takes advantage of his newfound "hotness", assisting all of the students at Hope's Peak. Chihiro notices that even his personality has changed thanks to his diet.

After helping everyone else, Hifumi seeks out Celestia. He finds her in the cafeteria, enjoying her tea. He demands an apology for all of the times she called him a "pig", but Celestia refuses. Instead, she declares that she should have trained him better, and begins shoving food into his mouth.

The next day, Hifumi arrives to breakfast claiming to have completely reverted to his original body. However, he now appeares even larger than before and can only roll around on the ground.

Hope Beam and Despair Naegi[]

  • Hope Beam and Despair Naegi by Tanejyugo (Pages 109 - 114)

Makoto is walking down the hallway when he spots Kiyotaka, who has a button out of place on his uniform. Kiyotaka quickly fixes it, then uses his "Forget Beam" on Makoto. Yasuhiro overhears the conversation and rushes over, believing fully in Taka's ability. Yasuhiro attempts the Forget Beam on Byakuya, who is walking past. He then asks Byakuya what his name is. When Byakuya refuses to answer, Yasuhiro believes that the ability had truly worked.

They encourage Makoto to try next, and he does so just as the girls are exiting the bath. Embarrassed, Makoto decides to commit himself fully to learning how to fire the Forget Beam for real, so the girls will forget what they saw. After two weeks, Makoto tries to cast the Forget Beam. All it does is shatter Byakuya's glasses.

Monokuma shows up and ridicules Makoto. He tries to cast the Forget Beam on Monokuma, and this time shatters Hifumi's glasses. Kiyotaka laughs and reminds them that the whole thing is just a joke. In the end, the idea "trends" and everyone makes up their own "beams" as jokes. Makoto, embarrassed, tries once more to cast his Forget Beam, and shatters Toko's glasses.
